Kerry Williams

My work is based upon corsetry and the variety of ways in which it is portrayed. Throughout history the corset has been depicted as an instrument of torture. Today women who wear the corset are seen as strong, sexually aware, liberated women.
It is these conflicting ideas of the corset as past and present that I am particularly interested in. How the corset has become an object of fetishism and what women of today gain by wearing the corset.
In a world where cosmetic surgery is socially acceptable we have to ask ourselves, is the corset as drastic as once thought?
